Notice of Motion #2
Canon 2: The Election, Office and Work of the Metropolitan Bishop
Moved by: Canon Charles Ferris (F.)
Seconded by: Canon Gordon Redden (NS & PEI)
That Canon 2 be amended by
- a) changing the name of the Canon by adding the word “Installation,” after the word “Election,”; and
b) adding the following new section 7:
- The Provincial Council may, with the approval of the Provincial House of Bishops, adopt by regulation forms relating to the election, installation, office and work of the Metropolitan Bishop.
Background
The amendment would add the word “installation” to the title reflecting an important component of the Canon and the fact that a Metropolitan is installed into the Office of Metropolitan; i.e., the ceremony is an installation only, not an ordination or consecration.
This amendment to Canon 2 will also enable the Province to adopt standard forms for the election and installation of a new Metropolitan Bishop and to adopt other Forms respecting the office and work of the Metropolitan Bishop as required.
